PATH Street Outreach Video Series

The PATH program is administered by the Center for Mental Health Services, a component of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The PATH Program – Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness – was authorized by the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Amendments Act of 1990.
The PATH "Street Outreach" video series is designed to equip homeless service providers with skills and knowledge to do their jobs well. Rather than talking theoretically about skills and knowledge, these training videos show providers practicing them in real world settings.
The three episodes in the "Street Outreach" series represent a condensed timeline. The process of building rapport with someone experiencing homelessness can take weeks, months, or even years. The videos are intended to show how that process might unfold over time. Viewers should not expect that all outreach encounters move as quickly as those depicted in the videos.

Free Source of Brief Videos for the Classroom or Online

TEDTalks began as a simple attempt to share brief videos of presentations given at TED conferences (events that bring together the "world's most fascinating thinkers and doers"). These four-day conferences are filled with speakers presenting on topics including science, business, the arts and the global issues facing our world. Under the moniker "ideas worth spreading", TedTalks are later posted online in a searchable database, and are freely available for viewing. Videos are typically 18 minutes or less (usually 10-15 minutes).
Videos can be easily used in the classroom or linked to web-based courses. Because the videos are brief and compelling, they can serve as excellent tools to engage students in discussions.
Below are speakers and topics related to our interests in psychiatric rehabilitation. We'll keep this list updated as new relevant videos are released. Please let us know of other TedTalk videos that are relevant.

Elyn Saks: A tale of mental illness from the inside - Posted Jun 2012 (time: 14:53)
- "Is it okay if I totally trash your office?" It's a question Elyn Saks once asked her doctor, and it wasn't a joke. In this powerful talk, she asks us to see people with mental illness clearly, honestly and compassionately.

CPRE Video Reviews
The Consortium of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Educators website is building a YouTube video resource, which will include “YouTube Reviews” section where you can find information about videos that are well suited for classes on psych rehab. Videos will be able to be previewed and linked directly from the psychrehab.net website. To submit a video review, please see the following sample as a guide.
While faculty selecting videos will be most interested in reviews by other faculty, writing reviews might make a useful course assignment. Submit completed reviews to Pat Nemec (cpre@patnemec.com). Download the instructions and a limited selection of videos to be reviewed HERE.
